THIS IDEA MAKES A LOT OF SENSE! Dear Friends and Family, You may have heard in the news that a couple of Post Offices in Texas have been forced to take down small posters that say "IN GOD WE TRUST". They claim that the law is being violated; something silly involving "electioneering posters". (Is God running for office?) Anyway, apparently a radio show host has proposed that we should all write "IN GOD WE TRUST" on the back of all our mail. After all, that is our national motto, and it's on all the money we use to buy those stamps. I think this is a wonderful idea. We must take back our nation from all the people who think that anything that offends them should be removed. If you like this idea, please pass it on, and DO IT. Let's start a land swell of support for our cherished principles we all love and believe in. This won't cost you anything but a tiny bit of effort, and the RESULTS could be PRICELESS! God Bless America Don't forget: PASS THIS ON.
Nice site. Consider adding maps, satellite photos and webcams. Webcams on 902 would be great for commuters during winter.
Very nice! Presented well, informative and easy to use. Some one deserves some credit. Michael Garfield 15 W Walter
Response: On behalf of both Ed Kane and myself thank you for your comments. We appreciate your taking the time to preview the site and passing on the word of its existence. -Lisa Evans
The site is informative, simple, well laid out, fast, and esthetically pleasing. Good job for the web designer. As I was looking at the old pictures of my home town, I realized how stark and raw were it's beginnings. (Aren't approximate dates available for these pictures?) One big reason for this, I think, is the lack of trees and shrubbery. This legacy seems to carry over to present times. Wouldn't it be possible to form a "shade tree committee" to undertake the planting and caring for trees and other greenery? This is done in towns over here in Jersey. The look of the present town would improve considerably with more trees. Best Regards, Tom Tonon.
Response: Thank you Tom. I did want to let you know that a Summit Hill Shade Tree Commission does exist. It is through their dedication and effort that we have the trees that are planted along the highway (Pine Street). If you'd like more information send me an email. -Lisa Evans
WOW, this was my first visit to the site, Thanks to Lisa Evans telling me about it. I had no idea it was here. It is a very well thought out site. I do like the idea someone said about maps, I have lived here 10 yrs and still don't know the names of all the streets in town. LOL. Lori
Response: Thank you Lori, I appreciate your comments, and thanks again for the donation of the Animal Crackers for the Easter Egg Hunt. Tell Emily I said hi and that I'm looking forward to meeting her at the Easter Event. -Lisa Evans
I would like to take a moment to thank the Summit Hill Rec. Commission for their support of the USA Marine Mom Depot Rally to support the troops. Thanks to Lisa Evans for the use of the Bunny drop corral and being the bunny. I would also like to thank Kathy Gulla for her contribution and sale of her beautiful bows, and to Duane and Lisa for selling them. The proceeds of the rally are to help cover the cost of postage for packages and letters being sent to our troops. The rally was a huge success, due in part to SHRC support. Thanks again, and our thoughts are with military members from Summit Hill as well as the rest of the country. We wish them a speedy and safe return home. God Bless America. Sue Ziegler, Collegeville
I just discovered the website today and I think it's real neat and deserving of all the accolades of the other people who left messages. I was born in Summit Hill in 1933 and went to St. Josephs School in '43 and again in '45 and I like reading about the town. Thanks to all involved for a nice website...I'll check in often. Matt McGonigle Yardley,Pa.
Response: Thank you for your comments. If you get a chance, check out the Recreational Ramblings Page under the Recreation. We try to put short news briefs about our activities and events. -Lisa Evans
Too bad the weather didn't cooperate for the festivities this weekend. My kids however had a great time watching the magic show and with Buster the Clown. Looking forward to a clearer sunnier weekend for next yr.
My cousin told me of this website last night. Our fathers were born and raised on Ludlow St. I can't wait to share these old pictures with my 87 year old father! I am a lifelong Ohioan, and my cousin from York, Pa., but our roots are from Summit Hill and we have visited many times. I agree with many of the previous, the St. Joe's festival is always fun! Looking forward to the expansion of this website, and just to check in and see who else signs this book! Mary Vrabel Pearce
Very, very nice site!! Add Some webcam pics, that would be awesome.
Hi, I currently live in Summit hill. It's a great Site keep up the good work. P.S. Add some Topographic Maps
Great site!! Keep up the good work Nancy (Williams) Kruzik
I love it.
Summit Hill is my hometown and I currently live in Bendersville, PA which is 13 miles north of Gettysburg. Down here we just have orchards of apples and peaches. I do get very homesick and this was really nice to visit this website. Good job! I would like to see today pics next to historical pics to compare. I tried to picture where the old pics were and it was difficult. I do come home to visit family approximately 4 x's a year and my husband loves the town. Maybe when we retire, we will retire to Summit Hill. I lived on East Hazard Street and a member of the Mattrazzo family. I would enjoy seeing where everyone learns to drive. The cemetery! Great job guys!!!!!!!!!! Tammy Gotwalt-Mattrazzo Cullison
This is a cute little site! I lived in Summit Hill for a while. My family and I left the summer of 1996. I lived on Ludlow street, right next to the coal mining museum. I love that museum...I think you should add something in here about that! I have so many happy memories that happened in Summit Hill! We used to give away apples and pears that were in our yard! I also have really old pictures from my house looking out onto Ludlow street. It is amazing to think how much it has changed, but then again how much it hasn't and never will! I kind of miss that! Shannon F. Puyallup Wa.
Response: Shannon, the museum has its own Web site http://www.shhistory.org/ . You can get to it using the Links Page. -Lisa Evans
What a joy this site is! Until one lives in various other places in these United states ( I have lived in all the commonwealth states). they don't realize what a privilege they experienced growing up in a small beautiful borough like Summit Hill. Actually I lived in Stoney Lonesome before we moved to Endicott, NY, where I live now. I'm reading about the revitalization effort in the Times. Don't know how us out-of -towners can be involved, but suggest this website might keep us abreast of current happenings. Also some current town pictures would be nice. Thanks for your efforts. Keep up the good work. John `Jack' Black
I think the web site is GREAT! I live in Melbourne, Australia and grew up in Summit Hill. I was only 5 y.o. when I left in 1958 but I have been back to visit 3 times - Last time 1999-2000. I have fond memories of the Town and the web site keeps me up to speed. Regards & Thank you, Robert VALENT
Hello, Just thought I'd drop everyone a line. I have not been back to Summit Hill for a long time and just found your web site by accident. Anyway tell all Hello, from Mike Mitchalk, presently in NE China (PRC).
This is a delightful site. Thanks very much for sharing it with us. Phillip and Brend Guidice
Hi, everyone. I live in TX but have family in Coaldale and surrounding area. I am trying to locate a cemetery in Summit Hill. It is affiliated with St. Mary's Russian Orthodox Church in Coaldale. It may be called St. Mary's or Summit Cemetery. If anyone has information for me I would appreciate it. I am doing family history and am trying to locate my great grandparents and some of their deceased children. Thanks.
Response: Please email me at java@ptd.net . Maybe I can help you. Possibly find what your looking for, take pictures and email them to you. - Ed Kane
Your police department should have someone there to answer the phones at ALL times. If I need to speak to someone there and am not within the area to utilize the toll free number, then I am stuck. It is very frustrating!! I know your town is small, but you must accommodate for this shortage of people in the office. Why don't you have the police office number forwarded to a cell phone that a patrolling officer should keep on him/her when no one is in the office? That would make life for me and many others much easier.
Response: Carbon County Communications Center has a Non-Emergency Number. 1-800-452-1813. They can relay a message to the on-duty officer to return a call. - Ed Kane
Uuser friendly site providing a wide spectrum of informative topics about my boyhood town. Another line item/area that could be added is identity of various media to find-hear Summit Hill related news; e.g. the Lansford Gazette, Leighton Time News, WLSH -dial 1410 AM. Good job, web master. Pat yourself on the back. Jack Black - Endicott, NY
I visited Summit Hill as a child with my girl scout troop. A childhood friend was from there and I believe she still lives there: Raine Simmons. Her aunt and uncle were the Millers. I think of my visit there every time I visit the Poconos and pass through Lehighton, I have very vivid memories. Some day, I'll talk my husband into driving around Summit Hill. It was a pleasant little town. Karyn Quinlan Kelly, Audubon, PA
HI, I'm not sure that I'm on the right track or not, but I read the post about someone having family in Coaldale, PA. My father was born in Coaldale in 1927 and I have been trying to get information about his family. I have contacted St. Mary's Russian Orthodox Church, but no luck. I'm kind of at my wit's end since his family is from Russia and Poland. There's not very many members left now. I was just hoping to get some general information. Thanks for any help you might can give me!
This site is very extensive! Great work! Thanks
Awesome site about Summit Hill!! I have lived in Lehighton all my life but just recently moved to Palmerton and am looking for a home in either Jim Thorpe or Summit Hill and they are both lovely towns and Summit Hill seems quieter and less expensive.
I really enjoyed visiting the SH site. You did a great job. Ed & Lisa. Edie Ann
Nice website of the town. Just moved to Summit Hill, grew up in the area and always found it to be a nice quiet little town. Ready for my first winter in Summit Hill, everyone says it snows more here than anywhere else in the area...is this true? LOL
The Borough of Summit Hill website is very informational. I have visited Summit Hill as my Sister and Brother-in-law, nieces and their families live there and have for many years. It is a very quiet community. The area in and around Summit Hill is very beautiful.
Looking for the grave of george Michael Bevich killed in Vietnam. United States Air Force. Killed December 4, 1966. Pat Riley rmadanthony@aol.com
My wife and I lived in Summit Hill until 1954. We met during our school years, and in 1954 were married and moved to Philadelphia. My wife still has a brother on west white street, and though we don't get up there as often as we would like, we still like to look around the old home town when we do. They say you can never go home, and I guess you really can't because in the years you've been gone so many things change. Like there is no longer Nicks where we used to gather as kids, or the old Capitol theater, and so many more places. Most of our classmates and friends are no longer there. So it's very nice to check into the Summit Hill web site and read the comments of past or even present town people. Enjoyed the photos too, though sometimes it is difficult to figure out the photo spots. We will be checking in regularly for future information on the old home town. Keep up the good work. Paul McLaughlin and Emily (Pavone) McLaughlin-Class of "49
Just letting the citizens know they live in a beautiful town just as beautiful as Lehighton :-)
Do Summit Hillers realize what's going on in their own backyard? A "gated community" of trailers? Do you really think this is good for Summit Hill? What kind of impact will this have on our home town 5, 10, 15, 20 years from now? Go to the Planning Commission and Borough Council Meetings and speak up.....
I love summit hill it is a historical landmark I think more people should go there you should advertise a little bit more
